Hello, all, long time no post. I have been very focused on my day job, arts and crafts, a little writing, so I haven’t finished a lot of digital pieces recently. But, a few weeks ago, Spotify put this song called “Gravity” onto one of my generated playlists, and I was like, “what’s this from?”
Cue me looking up what the hell “Harbin Hotel” was, seeing that Stephanie Beatriz was in the cast, saying “sure, sounds fun,” and putting it on. Now, I have to deal with the fact that I’m having VERY NORMAL feelings about a Spider Demon and a Cat Demon.
The show is so character driven that it’s hard to pinpoint who my favorite is, it seems to be whoever’s on screen at the moment. But “Poison” got stuck in my head and I wound up really wanting to try to draw Angel Dust, which… was a task. I got myself an iPad around the same time, so I did a lot of doodles to try and learn both Procreate and how to translate the show’s style into mine.
I had a lot of unsuccessful attempts, though it was still fun to experiment. I kept trying to give Angel a nose, because drawing a face without one felt so unbalanced. He never looked right to me with one, so I finally tried without one. I wasn’t intending to color this, but I wound up really liking the sketch, and it was fun to just play around because I watched a show and wanted to draw a character. That was a big reason I got into drawing in the first place, because I would watch or read something and like it a lot and want to draw it.
So, here he is! I want to draw his “Losin’ Streak” look too at some point, a little doodle I did of that look is when I started feeling like I could actually get this to work. I did this mostly in Procreate, with finishing adjustments/touches in Photoshop.
