Revamped Design: Terpsichore – Muse of Dance

Old character design of Terpsichore, Muse of Dance New character design of Terpsichore, Muse of Dance. She is a black woman with loose curls. She wears beads around her neck and on her arm and ankle bands. She's wearing a red crop top and a yellow skirt with blue leggings and yellow shoes.

Terpsichore’s new design is done!  I was starting to conceptualize my muse redesigns when I took my nonwestern art history class in college, and a video of Aboriginal Australian dancers really stuck with me, and I knew that’s what I wanted to go for with Terpsichore.

With her updated design, however, I also wanted to throw in some references to Josephine Baker, whose life is so, so incredibly interesting.  The pearls are meant to both call back to Josephine and to mimic some of the body paint seen on aboriginal dancers.  The straps I gave her outfit this time around as well as the shoes are also callbacks to clothes that Josephine would wear.
