I started this portrait of Ariel Bloomer of Icon For Hire a couple of weeks ago and kind of gave up on it when it wasn’t turning out the way I wanted it to. But, last week I donated to the band’s kickstarter for their new album and got the first three tracks. I love those songs soooo much and jamming to them for the past week made me want to re-visit this again. Thankfully, I was able to make it work this time!
Fan art for this band has been a long time coming, they’re definitely one of those bands where, I listen to the songs and I go, “it’s like they’re inside my head!” I also met them at Warped Tour back in 2014, and they were so nice, seriously the sweetest people. I told Ariel that I did art and then she asked me about it and my brain just blanked because I didn’t expect her to ask me about my stuff at all, oops. Awkward mess all around, but they were all so sweet (and put on a great show).
I really wanted to do something with Ariel’s look in their video for “Now You Know.” Maybe at some point I’ll attempt a full-body piece, I really love the costumes she puts together.
Leather is an absolute bitch to color, though.
The background is made up of photos I took at a hookah bar a few years back. I was also experimenting a bit with texture on the skin/leather this time.
