I honestly had so much fun with this one. I was thinking about the little transparent fish at the pet store and thought it would be fun to draw a mermaid based on that. I wasn’t sure if I bit off more than I could chew with the transparent parts or not, but I’m so glad I went along with it.
I tried to give her some organs, too, but they wound up distracting from the bones, and I love how the bones came out so much, so I just left them out. When I was looking at reference pictures of transparent fish, there weren’t a lot of visible organs, I think they were mostly hidden behind more opaque parts near the head, so I’m not too bothered.
I love how the colors turned out, too. It kind of brought me back to having Lisa Frank folders and backpacks in elementary school.
