“…because I’ll visit worse than death on you.”

cropped preview of a sketch of the character Sarah Sharpe from the film The Sea Beast. She is a black woman with short, braided hair, wearing a pirate hat with a feather and looking off to the upper right and sneering.

Have you all watched The Sea Beast yet?  I was a bit late to the party but I really enjoyed it a lot.  I loved Sarah Sharpe, especially, from the moment she stepped foot (well, one foot and one very cool peg leg) on screen and I was glad to see that she was a decently prominent character.

I was excited in general to see so many women on the ship (and on land!).  I’m so used to seeing maybe one token woman on ship crews in films that when they just kept showing up I was starting to get a little overwhelmed!  If I was this excited over it, I can’t imagine how happy it must have made little girls that were watching it.  All the character designs are a delight to look at, there’s so much variety and diversity, I hope to see more of this!
